When you get a puppy start sticking your hand near their food while they are eating. You want to make sure if any little kids does not get nipped when they are eating. Next you want to start walking your puppy on a leash. Get them use to a leash hook the leash on the collar and let them pull the leash around the house while you watch them. Make sure you find out if your puppy or dog is food or toy driven. My male dog is food driven so he will do any trick if you have treats in your pocket. Go to your nearest pet store and purchase a clicker. With the clicker you are going to mark what the puppy/dog is doing correctly.
Have a piece of treat in your hand and let the puppy/dog smell the treat lift it over its head and tell them to sit when they sit click your clicker and give the puppy a treat. It is best not to yell at them talk softly to them and they will understand what you are saying and wanting out of them. When you are trying to potty break a puppy you don't smack them for having an accident. You take them over to were they pottied then take them outside and let them go again. Puppies have to go everytime they eat or drink. Give them a treat or play with them after they go to the bathroom outside. So many people uses puppy pads or newspaper that is the worst thing to do. The animal thinks you are giving them the Ok to potty in the house so don't do this unless you want them to this.
