If you are getting a pet make sure you do your homework on the breed of
animal you are going to purchase. Call the vets and find out how much it is
going to cost you to get their shots and get them fixed. Some pets are very high
maintenance do your homework. How large of dog do you want to get? How big is
your home, do you have a fenced in backyard and how much time do you
have? You have to watch your pets they are like little kids not knowing
right from wrong. It takes about an hour every weekend to clean up our backyard
every Saturday in the winter. In the summer we have to clean up at least twice a
week. We have to Australian Shepard’s and the one is 10 months old and she drags
all kind of stuff in the middle of the yard.
Even with kittens you have to
watch what you leave out. They are very noisy so leave them in a safe
environment when you are away. Even kittens will claw your furniture, rugs,
carpet, screens, curtains and wood. Remember if you declaw your cat and they get
outside it will be harder for them to defend themselves.
Training a dog to go
outside to do their business takes time. At night you should always take their
food and water from them at least three hours before you go to bed. Put them in
a secure area such as a cage this way they will not get a hold of wires or
something that could make them very sick. You may have to get up a couple times
at night and take them out to potty. When you get up make first thing take them
out and let them do their business. When you come back in give them a little
food and water then right back outside. After you are ready to go to work take
them out again and then put them back into the cage. This is very important
don’t tell them bye and you will see them later this can make them have
separation anxiety. When you get home from work take them right outside then
feed and water them afterwards and then right back outside. Don’t put any
towels, blankets or rugs in the cage the puppy could chew them up and swallow
them and get very sick. Always watch them when they are eating any treats or
playing with any toys.
If your puppy eats his/her food real fast put a
tennis ball in the bowl. This make them slow down because the ball gets in the
way.
I have had real good luck with marking when a puppy does something
right. You can purchase a clicker at the pet store. So when you are teaching
them something click it when they do it correctly and give them a tiny treat.
